“They’re Building Their Own Sound”: 10 Out Of 10 Magazine Reviews ET Boys (8.7/10)
We just got featured in 10 Out Of 10 Magazine!
Music critic Rocky Blanco took a deep dive into our catalog—from “Woe Am I” and “Queremos Rock (Go Thru The Motions)” to “That’s All I Wanted (Microdose Zyzz)” and “Impossible”—and hit us with an 8.7 / 10 score!
“Tacboy Isn’t Trying To Fit In A Box”
One of the coolest parts about this review is that Rocky really caught the vibe of what we’re doing with Nu Pop. Instead of trying to stick to standard 16-bar rap formats or hyper-polished radio pop, he pointed out how Tacboy’s raw vocal character, Sharkeyes’ electronic synth layers, and Monsie’s live guitar work come together as a real unit.
Here are a few highlights from the review:
“Tacboy’s biggest strength may actually be that his voice isn’t traditionally perfect. It has character. There’s a looseness to his melodies that makes the records feel human.”
“Bringing Monsie’s guitar into the equation gives ET Boys another weapon because they’re now able to move between electronic production and live instrumentation.”
“There’s restraint in the production. These songs have layers, but they aren’t overcrowded. That’s harder than people think.”
Standout Track: “Impossible”
Rocky named “Impossible” as the standout track of the review, writing:
“This may be the record that best explains where ET Boys are musically right now… Everything works together. And that’s what production is supposed to do.”
Thank You to 10 Out Of 10 Magazine
Massive shoutout to Rocky Blanco and the team at 10 Out Of 10 Magazine for the love and for taking the time to listen to the records as a whole world rather than just a category.
